i heart textures

This week over at "i heart faces" the contest is all about textures. This proved to be a daunting task for me. I know absolutely nothing about photoshop, let alone textures. I spent the better part of the day learning about textures and feeling my way around them. I still have a lot to learn and I am excited to figure it all out. I think textures can really improve an average picture and other pictures into a piece of art. I chose an average picture of my daughter that needed a little color added to it. I was able to download a free texture called pastel confetti generously shared on flickr by pareeerica (http://www.flickr.com/photos/8078381@N03/4016548266/in/pool-textures_only).

i heart faces "we are family"

Yikes! Last week I forgot to upload my picture to the "i heart faces" website. By the time I realized I forgot, the contest was closed. So, this week I am hoping I remember ;)

This week on "i heart faces" the focus is on family, both traditional and nontraditional. The picture I have chosen is a picture of my brother and my daughter. An uncle and a niece who share a beautiful connection. My daughter was not feeling well on this particular day at the beach and she was very grumpy. Her uncle swooped in and took care of the situation. Nothing a little TLC from one of her favorite people and a bag of M&M's couldn't fix! I love the picture because it is shows their bond, it's fun and it just makes me smile.

i heart faces "best face" challenge

This week on "i heart faces" the challenge is "best face" picture. The picture has to have been taken this month and should show where you are as a photographer now.

At this point I am still learning and have so much more to learn yet. As a photographer (or wannabe as is this case with me) I like to focus on the moments, the personality and the things that make me smile. So, after much deliberation (and hundreds of pictures) I chose the above picture simply because it makes me smile!

My favorite photography blog, "i heart faces" is celebrating their first birthday! A super blog for photographers, aspiring photographers & hobbyists alike. "i heart faces" hosts a different contest each week asking photographers to shoot outside the box. It is great fun trying to participate in, but also just to view the amazing talent out there!
