Summer started yesterday at 1:40pm sharp. The kids had a little party with some friends in our yard playing on the water slide and creating their own version of the world cup. They ate tons of sweets, ice cream and hotdogs. They laughed with friends, danced in the dark to Bruce Springsteen, caught firelies, went to bed way too late, slept in, ate a late breakfast, went strawberry picking, watched the World Cup and ate chicken wings, etc. Not too bad for the first 24 hours of summer vacation.

They have been thick as thieves since they were two. He has an older sister, she has two older brothers and maybe that is why their friendship works so well. He gets her. She gets him. He protects her and helps her when she is in need. She orders him up ice cream when he gets flustered. He pushes her buttons just like a brother. She screams his name in the shrillest of voices like a demanding sister. On a playground filled with children they always find their way to one another. They talk, they laugh, they pretend, they run, they bicker, they love. The purest and truest love of two best friends.

Summer is here....almost!

One out of three kids is out of school for the summer. Four more days until the other two are and I can not wait!!! I adore summer. I love having my kiddies all to myself. I love waking up and having nowhere to be, but wherever we want to be. Endless amounts of sun, beach, chlorine, ice cream, firefly catching, playgrounds, late nights, and the list goes on and on. My kids and I are working on our summer wish lists. We will list everything each one of us wants to do and actually do them before that big yellow bus pulls up. Which unfortunately, will be sooner than any of us will want.
